How to Collect a Mid-nasal Swab Specimen for Covid-19 Testing

COVID-19 Mid-Nasal Swab Collection Instructions

1. Instruct the patient to tilt their head back 70 degrees.
2. Using gloves and keeping the tip sterile, remova o cotonete.
3. While rotating, insert the swab one inch or less until resistance is met at the turbinates.
4. Rotate the swab 3-5 times against the nasal wall and repeat in the other nostril with the same swab.
5. Place tip of the swab into the transport media, breaking off the shaft.
6. Replace the top of the vial and ensure it is securely fastened.
7. Confirm that the name and date of birth on the vial are correct.
