A New Saliva Testing Method

More than 5.5 million people in the United States have been infected with the new coronavirus, and many research institutions have successively developed different detection methods. The Yale School of Public Health has developed a new saliva testing method that not only has results within a few hours, but also costs only about ten dollars each time. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued an emergency authorization permit, which is the fifth saliva test approved.

The US media reported that this type of saliva test is quick and cheap because it omits the step of isolating the ribonucleic acid (RNA) from the virus. It only needs to add reagents to the sample and release the virus genome through a short heating process.
